The Department of Economics was approved in the first Executive Council Meeting held on 23rd May 2023. Legitimately, the regular classes commenced on 23 August 2023 by two guest faculties namely Dr. Lige Sora (Dept. In-charge) and Miss Obinam Libang with a total capacity of 20 students. Now, the Department of Economics is functioning with two regular teaching faculties, namely, Dr. Tagam Dabi, HoD (I/c) and Dr. Lige Sora, and one Guest faculty, Miss Obinam Libang. The department has a total enrolment of 36 students in both semesters i.e., 19 students in the first semester and 17 in the second semester. The first batch of students (3rd semester) follows the CBCS curriculum system while the 2nd batch (currently first semester) follows the syllabus based on NEP 2020.

The Department offers courses such as postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The duration of the post-graduation course (M.A.) is two years which is divided into four semesters. Offering Doctoral programme (Ph.D) has been recently approved by the administrative authority, therefore, it is to be started in the next academic session. The academic syllabus incorporates the regional and local issues related to the economic development of North East Region and the State. The department has its own library which can be avail to both students and faculties relevant to their syllabus and content. Apart from the existing stock of textbooks, good numbers of reference books, journals, statistical abstracts, etc. are also available in the departmental library.
